




The Baturité - mountain area, the last preserve of the "Mata Atlantica “in Ceará ( tropical forest along the Atlantic coast) with innumerable waterfalls.
Baturité (171m) is the center of this area with a surface of 33.9 hectares and protected by landscape nature conservation. It shows heights of 100-1100m over the sea.
In the 19th century, it was a center of coffee cultivation. The first railway line was built 1882 in Ceará to Baturité, to bring the coffee to the capital Fortaleza. The coffee cultivation stopped around 1900 and now the economic acquisition is restricted on vegetables and orchards plantations and the Eco-Tourism.
Redenção " Redemption " , former name was " Vila de Acarape "
A small important city, directly connected with the history of Ceará and Brazil regarding the slave hood.
Here, Brazil's first slaves got their freedom demonstrably in 1883 (1884 in the hole state Ceará). Five years before Princess Isabella, wife of the regent Pedro I. released the slaves per decree (13.May 1888). In Redenção you may visit the only one completely intact slave housings, which are accommodated in a sugarcane factory (Cachaça). The slaves were used to perform the work in the sugarcane fields.
